Paul Smith - Biography

I was born on Oct 26 1971 in a place called Oldenzaal, in the Netherlands.
I am one half of identical twins and together with my brother Eric, I started to make music on the age of seven.
After a few years of playing the recorder, my father gave me my first real flute.
At the same time I wrote my first melodies which were sometimes provided with simple lyrics.

Over eight years of music lessons, I developed my talent and learned how to play like a real musician.
Over the years I have played in several orchestras, choirs, and performed at many wedding ceremonies.
The first years I performed mostly with my twin brother and soon we had our first success.
In 1989 we won a music contest at our school with two songs that we wrote ourselves.
At that time the backgroundtapes were made by a foreign music teacher.
But I wanted to make them by myself and so I learned how to play piano and drums.

In 1993 Eric and I performed twice under the name of Twin Double in a Dutch radio program.
After a while I decided to go my own way because I wanted to play flute rather then sing.
It was in 1994 that I recorded my first album in a professional studio owned by a client of my father.
I was proud to have three copies made. I still lived in my parents' house and to make the music I had my own little studio at the attic.
It was there that I wrote and recorded my second album.

After 1996 my career got a totally different turn.
I got work in another part of the country and I decided to improve my other hobby, triathlon, a little bit more.
But in a way music was still in my mind and so I started to write songs again because I felt that it was where my heart really was.
The result is my latest album entiteld "The third diary"
